Winter does nothing to mar the beauty of the Cape Winelands or its busy social calendar. If anything, the onset of the cold season transforms Stellenbosch into a stark yet inviting destination – think crackling log fires, sheepskin blankets and tender roasts with all the trimmings. This weekend, the Spier Hotel is holding a Sunday Roast and Opera afternoon on 27 July.
Whether you’re with friends, family or your significant other, you will be hard pressed to find a better combination of music, food, wine and scenery than this. Spier Hotel is supplying guests with a traditional Sunday lunch including meats cooked to perfection, roast vegetables and, naturally, wine available in the midst of a warm, merry fire. While you savour the buffet lunch, you will be serenaded by world-class operatic voices.
Performing at the hotel will be Bulgarian soprano, Svetlana Ivanova, accompanied by pianist, Ingrid Salzmann. The two performers will regale you with a variety of melodies including romantic ballads and modern classics. Ivanova has performed throughout Europe over the past 16 years and is known for her astounding arias. Her love of music has led her to achieve two Masters Degrees in both opera and piano. Salzmann graduated with an Honours Degree in Music from the University of Stellenbosch and is an accomplished pianist, making her an ideal counterpart to Ivanova.
The Spier Sunday Roast and Opera is bound to be an afternoon that treats all the senses to a truly spectacular cultural and culinary journey. Book your tickets via Quicket.
